A career in a technical field requires dedication, continuous and focused learning, and perseverance. In this blog, I’m going to tell you the biggest concern about “How can non-IT backgrounds move into the IT sector”. As I’m having a great experience in a non-IT field and want to move into the information technology sector, Prilient Technologies gave me a chance to learn and start a career in the tech industry and showed me a clear road map, like how to achieve your long term career goals with new skills.
New skills always hit me in the mind. So I learned technical skills such as “JAVA”. At first, it was quite difficult for me to adapt to the new skills. I’m sharing my personal experience and thoughts in this blog, like how we can get focused while adapting new skills. Here are some main points:-
The IT sector is vast and diverse, so it's important to find your area of interest. This could be software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data engineering, the network field, or any other area of your interest. As per your interest, you can choose to start self learning on this. So before moving into the IT sector, you should concentrate on a particular skill that you want to learn.
Firstly, define your short term and long term career goals so that you can start working on them. This will always help you stay motivated and focused on your career path. Because without getting focused in your life, you can not achieve your career path and long term goals. I always set a career goal before starting the journey to learn new skills. It is very important to have a clear vision of your career path.
Depending on your area of interest, you may need to start learning through online resources, channels on YouTube (Code with Harry, Smart Programming, Learn Programming). My personal experience has been very good with this online tutorial to enhance my skills. They are even providing practical tasks in their lessons. You can get deeper knowledge through these channels on YouTube. Along with that, you can be certified through many paid and unpaid courses such as Coursera, Udemy, and Codeacdemy. Many MNC companies, such as Google, Deloitte, IBM, TCS, and Infosys, are offering some free paid and unpaid courses on their websites. You can get a free certification from these companies by applying for certification on their portals.
You should familiarize yourself with the basics of computer fundamentals, programming languages, operating systems, and networking concepts. This will provide a strong foundation for your technical skill development.
Always look for opportunities to gain practical experience and great knowledge. You can build small projects by yourself, such as Notepad, Calculator, and ATM software, and participate in practice on web portals such as HackerRank, Leetcode, and Codility. By practicing technical skills, you will get a higher rating on your profile. If you get a good rating on these websites, you will get a chance to start your journey at many big MNCs. They hired the people who got good ratings on these particular platforms. This is a great chance to start your career in Technical field So don’t miss the chance.
Firstly, search the common interview questions for technical positions and prepare accordingly. You have to keep practicing your technical skills and be ready to enhance your knowledge in technical interview rounds. Apart from this, you have to brush up on your problem solving and communication skills and build your confidence.
Before applying, you may need to align your goals and interests with particular skills. You have to search for the job on top job portals such as Naukri.com, LinkedIn, Indeed, and Monster. You may apply directly on company websites and connect with a professional network for IT suitable openings as a fresher. So don’t get disappointed by rejections and failures to find a job, as they are all normal parts of the process. Always learn from each experience, keep motivated, and improve your skills and knowledge.
You have to create a network by joining and attending industry events. You should join professional Organisation groups and engage in online communication with professionals. Because networking can provide valuable connections and many opportunities for job openings. You may visit campus hiring, which is organised by many software development MNC companies.
The IT field is constantly evolving and expanding, so it's important to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, skills, and best practices. You should always engage in continuous learning by reading industry blogs, following great leaders, joining technical groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, and taking relevant technical skills courses or certifications.
As you gain IT experience, you should create a portfolio to showcase your projects and demonstrate your skills to potential companies. This could include code samples, skills, documentation, or project examples of your work. When applying for relevant profiles, you have to customize your resume and cover letter to highlight your relevant skills, experiences, and achievements. Tailoring your application materials will increase your chances of landing an interview.
At the end of this blog, I would like to tell you one thing that the IT sector is constantly evolving, and employers always value problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and willingness to learn new skills. By enhancing your passion, commitment, and ability to acquire new skills, you can make a successful transition into the technical sector, regardless of your Non -Technical field. So keep learning and achieve great success in your life. I hope you would like to read this blog. Thank you for giving me your attention by reading this complete blog..
